409 S 5th Avenue (circa 1889-90) A Victorian-Gothic church built by Porter and Goodwin of Goldsboro, NC. The architect was B.D. Price of Philadelphia. Wilmingtonian E.V. Richards designed the stained glass. The education wing, built in 1921, was named for Charlie Jones Soong, a Chinese ship stowaway who was baptized here. Mr. Soong's two daughters married Sun Yat-Sen and Chiang Kai-Shek, who were instrumental in forming modern China and Taiwan.
