Tricks and tips to get the perfect Sunset Beach vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 056 Dutch Treat East Main by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
