Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • To find the best value, shift your family's Wilmington, NC vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 132 Keys in the Conch Shell by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rental home search.

  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
