Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best rental for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 139 Pure Gold by Sunset Vacations has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
