Wilmington, NC rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and picking your Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. 141 A Better Place To Be by Sunset Vacations has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is suitable for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
