Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 183 Sandy Britches by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
