Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Sunset Beach. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 282 Wild Thyme by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
