Tips and Tricks to get the best Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting and booking the rightrental:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. 5 minute drive to WB beach! Surf themed cozy 2 bedroom townhouse has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
