Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beachfront Home with Free WiFi, Washer\/Dryer, AC, & Deck - Dogs Welcome has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
