Things To Do:
Oak Island is known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, friendly community, and proximity to the cities of Southport, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. There are many cute island coffee stores, stores, breweries, and a park that showcases a splash pad for summer fun! With a elegant Golf Club open to summer travelers and over 100 public water access points, there is an abundance of all things adventurous to do on Oak Island!

If you'd like to keep your exercise routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp, and spend hours kayaking our handsome marshes.  Sit on the lawn and savor a nighttime off cooking at our Weekly Friday nighttime "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family-centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday before July 4th and features all-day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.

Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different eateries, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are complimentary parking options all over town, and you can comfortably walk to dozens of places while appreciating the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is really like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and enormous finale fireworks show over the riverfront in Southport.
We look forward to your visit!

Rental home booking tips:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect rental home in Oak Island:

  • Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Comfort and Privacy - Fully Renovated - Walk to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC beach you love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
