Take a relaxing kayak paddle off our dock or a bicycle ride around the island. Treat yourself to a round of golf at the Oak Island Country Club. It's a short walk to Ocean Crest Pier or to Island Way Restaurant for oceanfront dining. Drive to close by Southport and ride the ferry to Bald Head Island or historic Ft. Fisher. Wilmington is less than an hour's drive away.

At least one day, take the time to go to the beach to watch the sun set in the West before you come back to the guest home to relax and plan your tomorrow. Step outside and find a constellation or two or three.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect Wilmington, NC vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Quiet, Tranquil Retreat For Two, a 5-minute Walk to the Ocean has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
