Wilmington, NC rental property booking tips:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Wilmington. To book the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Cute cottage in downtown Wilmington walking distance to Live Oak Bank Pavilion has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC beach you love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
