Our top Vacation rental tips:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your Wilmington, NC vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by having your family decide on vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Enjoy the salt air in this beautiful oceanfront home - we can't keep it “Our Seacret” anymore! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your trip.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
