Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Impressive waterway home located in the private Holden Beach east end community. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
