Tricks and tips to get the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To book the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose and book the right Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Island Delight: Quiet beach cottage nestled near the Intercoastal Waterway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
