Getting the best rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. THE PERFECT BEACH HOUSE- Oak Island \"Walk to the Pier\"!!! LINENS INCLUDED! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, email the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
