Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

How to choose and book yourrental:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Price Reflects Dog Day Afternoons 20% Discount has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
