Tips to get the perfect Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Wilmington, NC vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best rental home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Welcome to Bald and the Beautiful on Bald Head Island has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
