The space
The bungalow is a single-story ADU behind a completely refreshed American Foursquare home originally constructed in 1897.

The bungalow has its own entrance, kitchen and bath, with a nice size living room. The sleeping room is just off the living room and features a queen bed with a plush pillowtop bed. There also is a desk in a corner of the living room for those who may need to work remotely. Fast internet is powered by AT&T fiber, with speed up to 1 GB per second. Independent testing by AirBnB verified upload and download speeds were 450+ GB per second.

Off-street parking is available, but on-street parking is rarely an issue, since St. Luke's Church takes up the block across the street. Off-street parking is shared between guests in the main home and guests in the bungalow.

The serene backyard is enormous for a downtown home and is shaded by towering oaks throughout most of the day

Robert Strange Park, the biggest park in downtown Wilmington, is a half-block away, with a public swimming pool, one baseball and 2 softball fields, basketball courts, in addition to 6 tennis/pickleball courts. Public swimming pool, operated by YMCA, is just two blocks away. Admission is just $1 kids, $3 adults, open only in the summer season.

How to get the best vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best rental:

  • First, have your group commit to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Wonderful Downtown Cottage - Big Backyard - Pet Friendly! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
