Tricks and tips to get the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Oak Island. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. CORNER LOT!! FULL BEACH VIEW!! 20 STEPS TO BEACH!! PET-FRIENDLY, 1 Small Pet has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
