Battleship Alive! is an interactive living-history event that brings the historic World War II-era Battleship North Carolina to life through reenactments, demonstrations, and hands-on educational experiences. Held several times each year aboard the ship in Wilmington, the event allows visitors to step back in time as living-history interpreters portray sailors, officers, and military personnel carrying out daily duties and drills that would have taken place during the battleship’s active service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Guests can watch demonstrations, interact with reenactors, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of life aboard one of the most decorated battleships of the war.
Designed for visitors of all ages, Battleship Alive! transforms the ship into a living museum where history is experienced firsthand rather than simply observed. Throughout the day, interpreters recreate military routines, shipboard operations, and wartime activities while sharing stories about the thousands of sailors who served aboard the vessel. The event is especially popular with families, students, scout groups, military history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in learning more about America’s naval heritage. Admission to Battleship Alive! is included with regular battleship admission.
The event also highlights the enduring legacy of the Battleship North Carolina, which today serves as North Carolina’s World War II memorial and a National Historic Landmark. By combining education, entertainment, and historical preservation, Battleship Alive! offers a unique opportunity to experience history in an immersive setting while honoring the service and sacrifices of the men and women who served during World War II.
