Sunset Beach is the southernmost barrier island in NC with wide sand beaches protected by rows of dramatic dunes. It was ranked #4 by National Geographic as one of the 21 best beaches in the world in 2017, and made TripAdvisors list of budget beach vacations. It is a most calming, family aligned beach, with only a few low rise retail outlets, but close to the many amenities of Myrtle Beach. Just off the island there are also many eateries, stores and other recreational outlets, as well as numerous world class golf courses. Just a short walk down the beach, Bird Island, a national wildlife preserve, consists of a two mile strand of uninhabited beach(except for the many species of birds, deer, goats and turtles) to make your walk or bicycle ride even more fun.

Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Sunset Beach. To find the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Island Home is a 'Sheer Delight' at a Bargain Rate has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC attraction you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
