Strategies to get the best Wilmington vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Maggie's Midtown Bungalow has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
