Rental home tips:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. RC4C3: Reefs IV C3: Oceanview, Oceanfront Deck, Seasonal Pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
