Our top Bald Head Island vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Bald Head Island. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Wilmington, NC restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • First, have your family decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Reset on BHI - Cape Fear Station \"Cottage of the Year\" Sleeps 6 BHI\/Shoals has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
