Finding the best Wilmington, NC vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your Wilmington, NC vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Retro beach cottage w\/ modern touch - in the heart of Carolina Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
