Our top Rental home tips:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Serendipity - Updated duplex elevator, ocean and sound views, sleeps 11 has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
