Finding the best Oak Island rental home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Shore Beats Work: Beachy Theme Throughout - Oceanview home in West Beach. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
