Things To Do:

Adventure awaits. Discover aquatic wildlife and vegetation at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher or appreciate a calming ferry ride across the Cape Fear River to a cozy little shopping town called Southport. Take a trip back in time at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Museum which features live oak covered trails and bunkers from the American Civil War. Stroll through the marsh to visit the home of the famed Ft. Fisher Hermit. Or wind down with nature at our two state parks, sure to provide a memorable experience with hiking, fishing, and water activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking and search for a Venus Flytrap which is native to NC only. As one of North Carolina's most undeveloped beaches, the island offers a unique opportunity to see many diverse coastal wildlife, including pelicans and loggerhead sea turtles, in their natural habitat. Whether it’s exploring activities on the island, appreciating the ocean vistas, or enjoying a drink by sunset from your own private balcony, Pleasure Island offers diversion for every enthusiast!

Explore the treasures of Carolina Beach, ranked one of the top 10 boardwalks in the country by Food & Wine magazine. One of the last remaining beach boardwalks on the East Coast, it includes a variety of eateries, arcade, stores, ice cream, Famous Britts Donuts, bars, and more! During the summer months, the Boardwalk is bustling with the sound of music, carnival rides, bingo, family nights, and events like the weekly fireworks and concert series. Rent a Jeep, bicycle, or golf cart as the most convenient ways to navigate the island. Annual off- season events include the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival.

We look forward to you visiting us!

Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your group decide on dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Starfish Shack New Design Build Family Home has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
