Tricks and tips to get the optimal Wilmington, NC rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking your prefect Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Watch the \"Sundance\" on the ocean in this oceanfront home with two living areas and handicap ramps. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
