Tips for getting the perfect Holden Beach vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Watch the \"Sundance\" on the ocean in this oceanfront home with two living areas and handicap ramps. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
