Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

When to visit Carolina Beach & When to reserve a Carolina Beach rental home:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Wilmington, NC area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing a perfectvacation home:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Whalecome to the beach-elevator has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
