Rental property booking tips:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in Oak Island. Reserve your Wilmington, NC rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Dog-Friendly Home With a Dock and Private Pool has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
