Our top Ocean Isle Beach rental home booking tips:

When to go & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Key to Paradise! 2nd Row House, Ocean & Waterway Views with Private Pool has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
