How to book the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserve your Wilmington, NC rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 415 The Respite by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
