Tricks and tips to get the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Pet-friendly, fully-fenced yard, minutes to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is right for your group.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective.
