Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose and book your prefectvacation home:

  • First, have your family choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Happy as a Clam Contemporary Coastal Home in Carolina Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. message the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
