Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Bald Head Island. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Wilmington, NC restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your group select dates and a spending budget.
  • 3 Bed, 2 Bath has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
