Rental home tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental value:

  • To find the best value, shift your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Southern Comfort - Expansive views of the ocean and beach! Newly renovated plus top grade linens! by RedAwning has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
