Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Oak Island. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Choose dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. New-Oceanfront-Elevated Pool-Elevator-Hot Tub-Kiddie Pool\/Fun Deck Spa-Sleeps34 has 14 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
