Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Newly Renovated Long Beach Cottage - Ocean and Marsh views; 1 min walk to beach! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC beach you love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
