Confucius said, “Keep it simple & focus on what matters. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed.” If Confucius was from Oak Island, he likely would have said, “Keep it Shrimple. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed by the busyness of everyday life. Instead, relax on the oceanfront deck. Breathe in the fresh salt air. Listen to the songs of the gulls as the waves break against the shore in accompaniment. Allow yourself to focus on what matters, calming & having fun with family & friends at this West Beach bungalow.” This isn’t just an Ocean View, it’s Oceanfront! Take charming walks watching the sunrise & set. You could also sit on the deck looking out at the vast Atlantic with your cup of coffee watching it rise & watch it set with a glass of wine. Not often seen on the East Coast, OKI faces South. That means that you get both the sun rise & set over the water. Bring your camera.

In simplicity lies beauty & sophistication. As you enter this well-appointed home, you enter an open concept kitchen/living/dining area. Recently modernized in 2022, you can appreciate the new floor, paint, kitchen countertops, living area furnishings & decking. The kitchen has all the essentials to make memorable meals. Modest appliances include a drip/k-cup coffee maker, tea kettle, 4 slice toaster & for those frozen vacay drinks, a blender. Serve your cheese on the granite board & prepare your Low Country Boil in the stockpot. The huge kitchen island does double duty. On the kitchen side it provides plenty of prep space & an area for creating a buffet. On the dining side, you’ll find 8 bar stools. Next to it is a dining table that seats 4. There is a enormous pantry for keeping your ingredients close at hand. The living area has a picture window that accepts in streams of natural light & a photogenic view of the ocean. Settle into the comfortable new couch, adore seat or chair & watch your favorite shows on the intelligent TV. There are a variety of games, puzzles & beach reads to also entertain your group.

This bungalow sleeps up to 10 in 4 coastal inspired bedrooms. The ocean view Primary has a Queen; Bedroom 2, also a Queen; Bedrooms 1 & 2 share a Jack & Jill Bath with a glass door step-in shower. You will appreciate the gorgeous way the owners chose to create privacy, a stained glass window of a boat cruiser on the water. Bedroom #3 has a King with a modest desk ideal for mobile working; Bedroom 4 has 2 Full beds. Bedrooms #2 & 3 share the Hall Bath with a tub/shower combination. All bedrooms feature a intelligent TV, dresser & closet. Pack lighter & leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs because there is a full-sized Washer & Dryer in the laundry closet. Other amenities include a hair dryer, curling iron & Iron/Ironing Board. This bungalow is kid-friendly offering a Pack n’ Play & a kid gate. There is also a desk and desk chair if needed.

Please note: Linens are included with your reservation and your beds will be made prior to your arrival. Also a Welcome Bag will be waiting for you upon your arrival with starter supplies which includes 2 trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, dishwasher powder, washing machine powder, dish sponge, modest shampoo and conditioner with bar of soap, make up remover, and 2 bottles of water.

The focal point of this bungalow is of course, that it is oceanfront. A sizable, covered deck spans the width of the home & holds comfortable Adirondack chairs & a table with benches, ideal for alfresco dining. As you head down the walkway, you may choose the Adirondack chairs on the sun deck to take in those uplifting, radiant rays of sunshine. Gaze over the sweeping vistas of our unspoiled beach. Keep a keen eye out & you may see dolphins playing in the water before you. Just to the left of the dune in front of you is an access to the fun in the sand. In the storage ahead of your parking area, you will find beach chairs, including a tiny Adirondack chair for the smallest guest. Look in the storage locker on the back deck & you will find an assortment of beach toys. As you return from the beach, you can use the open air rinsing shower with foot wash or the enclosed outdoor shower beneath the bungalow.

So, remember, as the Oak Island Confucius say, “Keep it Shrimple”.

Tips to get the perfect Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Gorgeous Ocean Front Home, Steps to the Water, Dog Friendly, Sleeps 10 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. text the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
