Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in Holden Beach. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.

How to select the best rental home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront duplex close to beach with lovely interior, large deck, AC & W\/D has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
