Vacation rental home tips:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To get the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking yourrental home:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Outstanding Beachfront Family Duplex w\/Free WiFi, Patio, Deck, Central AC, W\/D has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
