Rental property booking tips:

Finding the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking your Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Start by having your group select dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. "Sand Froonie House" is beautiful, with luxury amenities including a private heated swimming pool! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC beach you are enamored with, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
