Booking the best rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To find the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Wilmington, NC attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Steps away from the beach with loads of amenities has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
