Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

When to visit Holden Beach & When to book:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by having your family select dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lobster Mobster offers a deep-water canal and heatable saltwater pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC beach you love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
