Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Welcome to Valhalla on Bald Head Island has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
