Tricks and tips to get the optimal Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and pick the bestrental:

  • First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Dangerous Marine Life - 2 bedroom/1.5 bath duplex in Carolina Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Call the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
