How to book the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking the best Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Enjoy the beautiful views from "Shell Shocked," a pet-friendly, oceanfront home. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
