Tips and Tricks to get the best Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:

When to book a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. New home w\/ huge pool, 2 min walk to beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
